Scarborough Community Box Office (SCBO) was founded by Andrew Aldis, a former West End theatre manager, to offer professional ticketing services for community groups and organisations, enabling them to manage and promote their events with expertise. Partnered with Scarborough Theatre Company, SCBO has been providing reliable box office services since 2019. Before SCBO, Andrew’s career spanned management roles in major UK theatres, including deputy manager positions at Oxford’s 1,800-seat New Theatre, London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre (home to Wicked), and The Lyceum Theatre (home to The Lion King). In 2009, he became general manager of the newly refurbished Bridlington Spa and soon returned the venue to profitability—a milestone not achieved for a generation. Andrew quickly became a respected local figure, playing a pivotal role in events such as The Tour de Yorkshire and co-founding the annual Business Day event. In October 2019, Andrew was dismissed from Bridlington Spa after rejecting an unfair pay cut. The venue’s local authority operators later settled his legal claim and published an apology. Since moving to Scarborough, Andrew has overseen numerous arts and cultural projects, from the marine-themed public art at the Aquarium Top on Foreshore Road to preserving historical pieces like the early 20th-century glazed terracotta “ladies” in the entrance to the South Bay toilets. His projects include children’s arts workshops (Tricks and Treats 2023), the Signs of the Times illuminated displays in 2023, and, in 2024, transforming sites in the Old Town into galleries, studios, and retail spaces. Andrew also manages and stage-manages the annual pantomime at Chesterfield’s Winding Wheel and Pomegranate Theatres for Paul Holman Associates.
